Jim Conkwright was awarded an Honorary Membership to the the Texas Alliance of Groundwater Districts (TAGD) at the TAGD business meeting on January 30, 2020.

Hailing from Hereford, where he ran a purebred Hereford breeding operation, Jim Conkwright began his service to the groundwater community in 1979 as a board director at the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD). He held that role until 1993 and represented Armstrong, Deaf Smith, Potter, and Randall counties. Conkwright returned to serve the district in 2001 as HPWD’s General Manager until 2013. In 2014 he joined Prairielands Groundwater Conservation District as General Manager and retired in 2019.

Conkwright lives in Lubbock with his wife Janice. He is active in his local church and civic groups, and enjoys spending time with his two daughters and two grandsons.

Conkwright is a past president of TAGD and served in many other roles in the organization, working to support groundwater districts throughout the state. The TAGD Honorary Membership recognizes Jim Conkwright’s outstanding commitment and decades of service to groundwater management.

The Texas Alliance of Groundwater Districts supports Texas groundwater conservation districts and their efforts to conserve, preserve, and protect groundwater. TAGD provides educational and technical assistance to member districts and the public, serves as a resource on groundwater issues with state officials, assists members in keeping current with state law, and is a central point of contact for information on groundwater issues and practices.
