TAGD Business Meetings

About TAGD Regular Business Meetings

The Texas Alliance of Groundwater Districts holds regular business meetings each winter and late spring to provide our members with the opportunity to engage in important organizational matters, hear timely presentations, and connect with colleagues across the groundwater community.

During each meeting, TAGD conducts essential business such as committee updates, financial approvals, dues settings, policy or bylaw revisions, representative appointments, and annual reports. Alongside the business agenda, we offer a curated speaker series highlighting important issues affecting GCDs—including legislative and regulatory updates, funding opportunities, emerging science, and success stories from across the state. The business meeting portion is closed to TAGD members only. However, the accompanying speaker series is open to anyone interested in attending and learning more about groundwater in Texas.

TAGD also offers additional training opportunities for members, including GCD Boot Camps and Public Funds Investment Act training. These sessions are often scheduled directly before or after the business meeting to make participation convenient and accessible.

At the end of the first day of the meeting, we typically host a relaxed networking happy hour with drinks and light bites (sponsorships available!) to allow everyone to catch up informally.

Information about upcoming business meetings and training opportunities can be found below.

2026 Winter Business Meeting

  • Timely discussions on groundwater management, policy, and science with TAGD peers and partners.
  • Networking reception on Tuesday evening featuring a delicious spread of hors d’oeuvres and drinks.
  • A new speed networking event at the start of Tuesday evening’s reception, great for those new to TAGD or looking to broaden their connections.

In addition to the business meeting, TAGD will offer a brand-new GCD Boot Camp: Applied Pump Principles and Hydraulics on Tuesday morning before the meeting, and the Legislative Committee will meet on Wednesday after the business meeting concludes. View the draft agenda and register here.

GCD Boot Camp: Applied Pump Principles and Hydraulics

As part of TAGD’s Winter Business Meeting, TAGD is pleased to continue the GCD Boot Camp series with Applied Pump Principles and Hydraulics, held Tuesday, January 20 from 9:00-11:45am. This hands-on, problem-solving workshop is designed for in-person participation and will provide participants with practical tools for understanding pump systems and diagnosing common issues. A warm buffet lunch will be provided for all boot camp registrants who sign up by Friday, January 9. Please note that separate registration is required, and a virtual option will not be available.

Led by David W. Smith, Extension Program Specialist with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Biological & Agricultural Engineering Department in College Station, this interactive training focuses on the principles and calculations that govern pump performance and hydraulics.

Participants can expect to:

  • Explore the operating characteristics of common pump types, including centrifugal, shallow and deep well jet, and submersible systems.
  • Review hydraulic concepts such as suction lift, vacuum, and friction loss.
  • Learn how to convert between feet of head and pressure for more accurate field assessments.
  • Calculate friction loss and total dynamic head using real-world examples.
  • Examine the causes and effects of cavitation and understand net positive suction head requirements.

Whether you’re new to pumps and hydraulics or looking to refresh your understanding, this boot camp offers practical, applied learning you can take back to your district.
